Lace Up, Del’s Ready to Go Again!

There’s something pretty special about finding an experience you love so much, you can’t wait to do it all over again.

That’s exactly how Del feels about the HBF Run for a Reason.

After an unforgettable day last year, she’s already counting down to Sunday 24 May – and this time, she knows just how much fun is in store. With her support worker Fiona by her side and the Crosslinks crew rallying together, Del is excited to once again join the buzz, the colour and the connection that makes this event so meaningful.

Last year’s event left a big impression on Del – and it’s easy to see why.

It was exciting from the moment she arrived. So many people, so much energy, and so much to take in. For someone accessing disability support Perth, these big community events can feel like a lot at first (especially when it’s raining!) but with the right support, they can quickly turn into something joyful and empowering.

And for Del, it absolutely did.

She loved the little moments just as much as the big ones.
Like when a kind stranger offered her glitter to wear on her face – something that made her light up instantly.
Like taking in all the sights through the city.
And of course, like crossing the finish line and receiving her medal.

“She smiled the whole time,” Fiona said. That kind of joy sticks with you.

Through our community inclusion services, we support people to get involved in events just like this, in a way that feels comfortable, supported and genuinely fun. It’s not about doing things perfectly – it’s about having a go, enjoying the moment, and being part of a community that’s right there with you.

This is what supported independent living Perth and community-based supports can look like when fun and connection are part of the plan.
With May just around the corner, the excitement is building.

Del is ready. She knows there’ll be crowds, she’s hoping for a bit of glitter again, and she’s definitely looking forward to that finish line medal.
But more than anything, she’s looking forward to being part of it all again – with her team, her community, and that same big smile.

Del has one very important message she wants to share:
She would like you to donate.

Because every dollar raised helps create more opportunities like this – more outings, more connection, more fun for Crosslinks participants.

Your support goes directly towards programs and experiences that bring people together, whether that’s events like the HBF Run or everyday activities for those exploring SIL vacancies Perth and social supports.
