Why Nature Matters (Especially for Carers)
Hiking is one of Australia’s most popular recreational activities and as it turns out, spending time in green spaces can have a profound effect on our wellbeing.
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Improved sleep quality
- Improved physical fitness
- Reduced risk of heart disease and diabetes
For carers, those benefits can be even more meaningful. That’s why connection is at the heart of this hike.
This isn’t about pushing limits. It’s about gentle encouragement in a supportive space.
On the trail, conversations happen naturally. Side by side. Without pressure. Without judgement.
And after the walk, we’ll head to a nearby café for coffee. Because sometimes the best chats happen over a warm cup and a shared laugh.
A Small Adventure That Makes a Big Difference
At Crosslinks, we believe support isn’t only about services. It’s about creating space for joy, connection and community.
While we provide disability support in Perth, including community inclusion services and supported independent living Perth options, we also know that when carers feel supported, everyone benefits.
That’s why we’ve created Little Adventures in Nature – a free, beginner-friendly guided walk designed especially for carers who deserve a break.
📍 Kent Street Weir, Wilson (Canning River Regional Park)

We’ll explore the beautiful Butterflies, Birds & Bridges Trail along the Canning River — a Grade 1 paved, accessible trail that takes us:
- Over peaceful sedge meadows
- Through mature woodlands
- Across gentle creeks
- Amongst the paperbarks
It’s an easy 1–2 hour walk, at a pace that suits everyone.
All you need is comfortable shoes, a hat and a water bottle. We’ll take care of the rest.
